Ecotect is now Autodesk® Ecotect®. It came to me as a big shock, as I never expected this to happen. But if you had been an active member on ecotect community, you should have already smelled something cooking. First Andrew took almost 18 months to release version 5.6. Immediately after its release (after 24 hours approx.) announced this acquisition. Secondly, affiliates page was ‘under maintenance’ since the release of new version of ecotect and I feel pity about its affiliates (including myself). Anyway, Autodesk has been acquiring many good software since last many years, and with this acquisition, Autodesk has proven to be leader of green building design software. They have previously acquired Green Building Studio software.
it will be interesting to see what is Autodesk going to do with two competing software? One software may have to be sacrificed for the sake of other OR buyer will have choice to pick what he likes. If not, GBS will be sold as simulation tool, whereas Ecotect as design tool. Fingers crossed!
I have been an avid fan of Ecotect and will keep it using and suggesting to my friends as I used to do in past. Thanks Andrew J. Marsh for providing us such a wonderful tool!
